Mold Remediation in Ft.  Lauderdale

Mold can be very dangerous, especially if untreated. Most Ft. Lauderdale residents don’t know they have a mold problem until its too late. This is why we take the time to inform our Ft. Lauderdale clients of the many ways that mold can be prevented in the home. There are also several methods to remove the mold once you have found it in your home.

In simple terms, Mold is a fungus growth that could prove very difficult to remove if not done correctly. Mold can also affect the health of you and your family so it’s important to understand why there is mold and how to control it.

Firstly, we are surrounded by mold everywhere in our daily lives especially in our Ft. Lauderdale weather, but for the most part, it’s in such small quantities that it does not affect us. You might be thinking that if we are surrounded by it why do we need to control it in our homes?  The short answer is – prolonged exposure to any mold could be deadly, particularly for those suffering from asthma or other respiratory conditions.

The first signs of a mold problem in south Florida are an increase in the frequency of irritations to the eyes, throat, lungs, and nose as well as skin rashes. The effect on asthma suffers will be significantly pronounced, due to their sensitivity to mold and spores in the air. Mold in itself is not the only problem, the spores in the air also result in unhealthy conditions. The byproducts of mold can also be toxic in some cases and these substances can result in symptoms like fever and shortness of breath.

Individual reactions vary greatly, this does not mean that if you are not reacting to mold that you should not address the build-up of mold in your Broward county home. Minimal exposure is normal but as soon as you are exposed to mold and spores in high volumes you could have severe reactions to it. Regardless of your specific reaction, it is very important to monitor the danger areas and control the growth of mold in the home.

The best way of doing this is to control the moisture levels in the home as well as the humidity levels . These two factors make for the perfect conditions for mold growth. Keeping these conditions below 50% at least would significantly reduce the occurrence of mold.

If you find mold in your home, you should be able to reach a service provider any day of the week. You are also able to have your home inspected by a professional regardless of any visible mold. Better safe than sorry, they say.

Naturally, occurring mold is impossible to remove completely. Mold is one of the micro-organisms that aid in the break down of dead organic matter such as fallen trees and dead plants. The microscopic mold spores (seeds) float on air currents and will begin to grow wherever they land as long as the conditions are conducive. They can even survive for long periods of time until the environmental conditions are better for growth.

Inside your home. Mold spores can be dangerous if they come to land on any surface that presents it with moisture and food. Moisture is critical to mold growth and without moisture mold won’t grow. Food sources could be anything from dust, drywall, paper or wood. As long as the humidity and moisture levels are good the mold will grow.

Mold and mold spores can present a significant health risk if you don’t control it.

Mold affecting your health in Ft. Lauderdale

Beware all our Ft. Lauderdale mold Clients

Long-term exposure to mold and mold spores in Ft. Lauderdale could lead to an increase of asthma attacks in those who have asthma already, it could even cause asthma-like symptoms in those that do not have the conditions already. Nonallergic individuals in Broward county can also suffer from symptoms such irritations of skin eyes and airways.

The most common mold responsible for these symptoms found in Ft. Lauderdale is Black Mold or Stachybotrys, and it produces the mycotoxins that are the main cause for the human reactions. Depending on the person’s health state the reactions could vary from fever to breathing troubles but in people with compromised immune systems, the symptoms could develop into severe infections and chronic difficulty. Unfortunately, the severity of the reaction in allergic and non-allergic people is not predictable due to the varying degrees of health state and related conditions associated with mold problems.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report of 2009 indicated that although there is sufficient evidence of a link between exposure to mold indoors and the occurrence of upper respiratory tract symptoms such as coughing and wheezing amongst healthy people, there is no connection between mold exposure and medical issues like asthma or any other respiratory conditions. The exposure to mold will increase the occurrence of asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis however especially in compromised individuals. The report did not conclude that exposure to mold could result in these conditions but did state that exposure to mold could be a contributing factor. So if you live in Ft. Lauderdale or Broward County and has a suspicion of mold, give us a call to schedule your Mold inspection today.
